We offer a full range of clinics and services aimed at both preventing disease and providing regular follow-up for those with certain chronic diseases.

Diabetic Clinic

  • Wednesday Mornings

This clinic is run by Dr Alford. The clinic is by appointment only. If you are diagnosed with diabetes you will either be followed up at hospital or in this clinic.

Asthma and COPD clinic

  • Monday and Thursday Afternoon

This clinic is run by the Practice Nurses. They have a special interest in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and have completed extensive training. The clinic aims to clarify the diagnosis of chest problems, to ensure the best medication is being used and to increase understanding in managing the condition. Please contact our reception staff to arrange an appointment.

Minor Surgery

  • Appointment after discussion with doctor
  • Minor surgery performed by Dr. Munro, Dr. Todd, Dr. Starkey and Dr. Alford

Examples of minor surgery include excision of skin lumps and cysts, cryotherapy to warts and joint injections. This service is offered to help save patients long waits for hospital appointments. All conditions must be assessed first on a normal appointment to judge their suitability. The doctor may then arrange a longer appointment to carry out the procedure.

Hypertension, Cardiac and Stroke Clinics

People with high blood pressure or a history of heart disease (angina or previous heart attack) or cerebro-vascular disease (stroke, CVA, TIA) are recalled on an annual basis for a health check. This is very important as there are many medications available nowadays for prevention of complications from heart and blood vessel disease. Checks take the form of a blood pressure check, blood tests, urine test and sometimes ECG (electro-cardiogram). If you are new to the practice and have a history of these diseases then please ensure your doctor is aware. Your name will then be added to the appropriate register for regular checks.

Well Baby and Child Surveillance

  • Wednesday afternoon

This clinic keeps a check on the development of babies and children. Immunisations are also given in accordance to national protocols.

We strongly recommend that you protect your child by immunisation. Only in very special circumstances should immunisation be delayed or omitted. Your doctor or health visitor will be pleased to discuss any concerns you may have.

Well Person Clinics

These are run by the Practice Nurses. They offer a health check aimed at detecting common diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. The clinic is aimed at anybody aged 20 years to 75 years old. Appointments are made in the usual way.

Cervical Cytology (Smear Test)

It is recommended that women between the ages of 25 and 50 years have a cervical smear test every 3 years. Women between the ages of 50 years and 64 years are recommended to have a cervical smear every 5 years. If you have had an abnormal or 'borderline' smear you may be asked to have more frequent tests. The practice nurses are highly trained at taking cervical smears and their performance is audited by the high percentage of 'adequate' smears the practice obtains. Appointments are sent out routinely when due.

Travel Immunisations

The practice nurses offer comprehensive advice on travel and will also be able to organise immunisations. Please contact the nurses 8 weeks prior to travelling. If you have less than 8 weeks before you travel you may be referred to an outside travel clinic.

  • Community midwife Jackie Ward

Antenatal care is shared between your doctor, our local community midwife and the maternity hospital. If you think you may be pregnant, please book an appointment with your usual doctor who can organise your antenatal care.
